the walking wounded

Still here! Still do not have a diagnosis as to the mystery pain. I have been pain free for three days so that is encouraging. More doctor's appts this week to go over the tests of last week, FUN......

Tank is doing OK, not worse not much better. I am shoving antibiotics down his throat with a syringe twice daily and he is over it! The wound is still gross as can be and draining like mad. Today I spoke with my vet and he suggested making a paste of sugar and honey and packing the wound with it.???? He said other than attracting every fly in a 30 mile radius, it would draw the bacteria out of the wound. Well, OK, I am packing it at night and will flush it out in the morning.
I cannot send the guy out in the pasture with a neon sign on him saying come eat here!

I am off to see Harley tomorrow it has been almost two weeks! I spoke with Mike tonight and he said that he is riding nicely. I may climb up on him depending how I feel tomorrow, no fancy stuff just a trip around the arena or two. He is scheduled to come home on the 15th which means I must get out to the pasture and make him a small lot within the three acre lot. I am worried about founder since my grass is coming in strong and he has not been out on any for two months. They have been turning him out in a dry lot for play time. Hoping he has lost the rest of the winter woollies as we are supposed to show on the 17th. Will have to see what the doc says about me before we make that call. Will let you know how the ride goes tomorrow.
Happy trails.....

TRC, glad to hear you haven't had any more pain!! Poor Tank! He doesn't want to be a big bug magnet! ;) Are you showing Harley in a reining class at the show on the 17th?

Thanks girls for the moral support.
Been wrestling with some poor me's over here this week. PG I hope to show Harley in conformation, horsemanship, reining and ranch riding (which is like a pleasure class). We shall see if it is in the cards.....

TRC - You deserve a break - I really hope you will be able to make it to the show. I've heard of sugar and iodine to draw out a hoof abscess, so I guess that's a property of sugar - I hope it works. Tank might like a little sugar with his antibiotics too. Poor guy - he deserves a break too.
